They add so much value to the app ecosystem. Just look at this page for Rage of Bahamut, one of the top grossing apps on both iOS and Android right now. It has very detailed information on the app, daily ranks by country, rank history, categories, etc. This is highly valuable information to the app developer’s user acquisition and marketing teams. As well as to everyone on the publisher and network side (like me).
